Storming The Bastille

July 14th 1789 - A terrible thing happened this afternoon while my lady and I were at the palace at Versailles. Hundreds of civilians who were angry about the lack of food in the city attacked the prison and fortress of Bastille, demanding gunpowder and the release of the prisoners. When the man in charge - the Marquis de Launay - refused them, they broke into the fortress, captured the arsnal, and seized de Launay and his men. The mob the dragged them through the streets of Paris. Both my lady and her husband, the King, were very much afraid that this was the beginning of a revolution in France.
